Generations Moving Together

Generations Moving Together
Mission: To encourage community involvement, movement, learning and connection between younger and older generations.
Our Story: In 2018, Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House led a two-year intergenerational initiative called The Front Step Project that worked to empower youth aging out of foster care and older adults to connect and build community together. These two groups both face systemic problems in our city like social isolation, ageism, poverty and housing insecurity, but they don’t often interact. We wondered if we could solve some of these systemic challenges by putting these two populations with complementary needs and gifts in a space to learn and grow together.
In May 2022, Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House took the lessons from the Front Step Project and began building an intergenerational movement that connects young adults and older adults through activities that engage them with their community, movement and the outdoors. We are looking for new community members and partners who want to help us grow and raise awareness around the importance of connecting intergenerationally.
We are currently offering free yoga, gardening workshops, art activities, drop-in dialogues and more!
