Childcare

Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House offers inclusive and nurturing childcare programs that celebrate the diversity of families in our community. Our programs are built on a foundation of respect, equity, and cultural understanding, providing a welcoming environment for children of all backgrounds and abilities.

We honour families as the first teachers of their children and foster strong, collaborative relationships with parents and caregivers. Through open communication, family engagement activities, and culturally responsive practices, we work together to create a supportive village that uplifts each child’s unique identity.

ANHBC Approach to Childcare

Our Neighbourhood House Childcare approach is grounded in reciprocity. We believe that every child, educator, team member, and family have something to contribute and to learn from each other and that is as a community, we share a collective responsibility to every member.

As a Neighbourhood House, we honour the role and knowledge of families. We empower children to share their voices and vision for the world, and we commit to walking alongside them at every step of their unique journey.

MPNH Childcare Program’s Philosophy

Inspired by the BC Early Learning Framework and the Reggio Emilia approach, our curriculum is process-oriented and inquiry-based. We value that each child develops at their own pace and we celebrate children for who they are today. Children are autonomous, capable, and active participants in our environment. We strive to create a warm and welcoming program, allowing for relationships of trust, communication, and respect. Creating strong bonds is our greatest tool to support children in their development, learning, exploration, and risk-taking.

Children and educators work and learn together as researchers and collaborators.

Waitlist and Registration Information

Due to the high volume of inquiries, we are unable to respond to individual emails or phone calls.

Children registered in one of our programs have priority for movement to the next age group, then, siblings. Once these priority placements have been fulfilled, priority consideration will be given to families who identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Metis or Inuit), families with children with additional support needs, only-parent families and newcomers to Canada (within the past 5 years).

A new, streamlined childcare waitlist application and registration system is coming soon to all to the Association of Neighbourhood Houses of BC including Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House. Please stay tuned, for now please click the links below for more information.

  • "It was extra special that we made time to gather together and sew the pieces to the tree and be together as a community contributing to the kids' dreams! Thanks for involving us in a wonderful project and for letting the kids lead so much of what happens at school!"
