Food Security
At Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House, we believe that access to nutritious food is a basic human right—and a powerful way to build community. Our Food Security programs bring people together across generations and cultures to share meals, learn new skills, and support one another.
We offer a range of programs designed to make healthy food more accessible while creating opportunities for connection, learning, and empowerment, such us cooking clubs, food skills workshops, bread pick-up, food hampers, and community garden.
These programs are grounded in principles of dignity, inclusion, and cultural respect. Whether you're looking to learn, give back, or receive support, there’s a place for you at our table. Everyone deserves to eat well, and no one should have to do it alone.

Our community garden is a vibrant space where neighbours come together to grow fresh, healthy food and strengthen community connections.
In collaboration with Community Garden Roots, our MPNH Community Garden offers opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to learn about sustainable gardening, share knowledge, and celebrate the joy of growing their own food.

Community Lunch and Cooking Club
At Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House, our Community Lunch and Cooking Club are monthly gatherings where generations connect through the universal language of food.
Community Lunch is a warm, welcoming meal shared across the table with friends old and new. These lunches aren’t just about good food; they’re about growing friendships, sharing cultures, and celebrating community spirit.
Cooking Club kicks things off as a lively, hands-on kitchen adventure. Recipes are inspired by the rich diversity of our newcomer participants and community members, with each month offering a new flavourful theme.

One-time Emergency Food Hampers
We provide one-time emergency food hampers to individuals and families facing urgent or unexpected challenges. These hampers offer short-term support, and we will also connect you with more sustainable food resources available in the community.
Contents may vary depending on available supplies.
Everyone is welcome, no questions asked.

Multigenerational Workshops
Our multigenerational food skills workshops bring together youth, families, older adults 55+, and seniors in a welcoming, hands-on environment where everyone can learn from one another. Participants of all ages work side by side to prepare meals, learn new recipes, and share culinary knowledge rooted in both tradition and innovation.
Throughout the year, we also host seasonal food workshops, which focus on sustainability and preserving local food traditions, including canning and preserving.
