We are happy to announce that our House is teaming up with local restaurant organization, The Narrow Group and two of their restaurants, The Rumpus Room and The Emerald Supper Club & Cocktail Lounge, to deliver cooked meals to families and seniors in need.
This amazing collaboration is a result of conversations among staff at the Rumpus Room, who wanted to help the neighbourhood. The Rumpus Room’s sister restaurant, the Emerald, had to cancel many event bookings due to COVID-19 and had lots of spare food to put to use.
The Narrow Group decided to set up a “Pay What You Can” system at the Rumpus Room, and contacted us to ask how they could use this to serve our community. We jumped at the chance!
“During times like this, seniors need the support they may not have otherwise. As a community, it’s our responsibility to come together to support where we can,” said Tulia Castellanos, Executive Director of Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House.
“Thanks to the contributions of The Narrow Group, we will soon be able to provide even more relief for the seniors and families who need it the most.”
The new Rumpus Room x Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House scheme works like this:
1. You can go into the Rumpus Room and pay what you can for a meal. Their chef will be doing a special every day. Bring friends or get it to go, they want you to leave happy!
2. You can pay what you can for a meal that will be donated to our House. Buy 10 meals or just one, it will go to a senior or family in need and The Rumpus Room team will deliver it!
Once a week, the Rumpus Room will make the meals that have been donated by the public and deliver them to seniors and families in the Mount Pleasant area.
Additionally, the Rumpus Room will also collect and deliver meals made by our House from food that has been donated by others in the community.
“As business owners in Metro Vancouver, we’ve seen first hand the impact COVID-19 has had on our society and seniors specifically,” said David Duprey, Owner at Narrow Group.
“Our goal is to come together to give back to seniors who are in need. We want to ensure they know they are important and matter and have not been forgotten.”
We are thrilled to be collaborating with the Narrow Group and immensely grateful for everything they are doing to support our seniors and most vulnerable community members at this tough time.
